You become what you do (not the other way around)

Hey Reader,

Last week, I shared how easy it is to keep waiting until you feel ready.

And how that moment… it never really comes.

But here’s the part we don’t talk about enough: What actually happens after you actually make a decision and take action.

Because it’s not just about the result or about the outcomes you get. It’s about what shifts internally. It's about who you become.

What I have realized more and more lately is this:

👉 You become what you do.
You don’t do what you become.

And I think a lot of us have this backwards.

We think:
“I need to feel confident before I start.”
“I need to be more disciplined before I commit.”
“I need to become that version of myself first.”

But that’s not how it works.

I noticed this recently when I finally decided to commit to running my first full marathon.

For years, I kept telling myself:
“I’ll do it when I have more time.”
“When I feel more prepared.”
“When the timing makes more sense.”

And honestly, I believed this; they all sounded like perfectly logical reasons why I should wait.

But the moment I committed, before I even ran a single mile, something inside shifted.

I stopped seeing myself as someone who wants to run a marathon someday.

And I started seeing myself as someone who actually does it now.

  • Someone who follows through.
  • Someone who shows up.
  • Someone who moves, even when it’s uncomfortable (and let me tell you, it was pretty uncomfortable).

That shift didn’t come from confidence.

It came from action.

Because the truth is:

You don’t become confident and then act.
👉 You act... and then you become confident.

You don’t become disciplined and then work out.
👉 You show up and work out... and then you become disciplined.

You don’t become truthful and then say the truth.
👉 You say the truth... and then you become truthful.

You become what you do.

So if there’s something you’ve been putting off lately…

This might be your reminder:

You don’t need to become a different version of yourself first.

You just need to start acting like that person, now.

Even in small ways.
Even imperfectly.

This is exactly what I’ve been building behind the scenes lately... something to help you:

  • Get out of overthinking
  • Take action more consistently
  • And actually start creating the things you’ve been thinking about for a while... (often, years or decades)

I’ll share more on this soon! 🤍

But for now,

👉 What’s one small action, towards that goal or that dream, you could take today?

Reply here and tell me what one thing, small or big, you’ve been putting off? I would love to talk about it! (For me, it has been finally launching this program I mentioned before, which I keep thinking about...)

What I'm Binging Right Now (A Confession)

A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I completely binged on Landman and completely loved it. I seriously considered whether I needed to get into the oil business or if there was any way to invest in it.

Now, we are totally obsessed with watching any of Taylor Sheridan's (the creator of Landman) shows we can... Currently, we are watching Lioness (so far, I love it) and have on the list of next shows to watch, Mayor of Kingstown, The Madison, and Tulsa Kings.

I have no idea what these shows say about my taste, but I'm loving our current evening one-episode (at least) ritual! Now, it's your turn. Hit REPLY and tell me what you are watching and loving. I would love to know!

I will see you next week.

Until then, think about that thing you've been postponing and thinking about, and take one small action towards it this week.

And Reader, in case you ever forget it, you are loved, you are worthy, and you are capable of creating a life you love. Always. It's time to go out there and DO. SOMETHING. ABOUT. IT.

Jenny 😉

PS. If you’ve ever felt fear right before doing something important… you’re not alone. In this episode, we explore the psychology of courage and why fear tends to show up right before growth, change, and breakthroughs. 📺 Watch on YouTube here. 🎧 Listen on Spotify. 🎧 Or Apple Podcasts.

The quiet cost of waiting

Hey Reader, Have you ever been described in one way and thought to yourself, "Really, people see me like that?" Just yesterday, I was talking with my sister, and she mentioned that everyone always tells her about how peculiar her sister (aka, me) is and that she never takes it the wrong way because she already knows I'm peculiar. She has always said, in her words, that "I live in Jennyland", so I guess it doesn't really come as a total surprise that she finds me peculiar. At the moment, I...

What if the bigger risk is this?

Hey Reader, You're going to die. I don't tell you this to be morbid or anything like that. This past week, I was just reminded of my own mortality. Not in any big, grand way. Just in those small moments that make you feel like you're not doing several things for fear (fear of failing, fear of being judged, fear of not being "good enough"), and then you hear this simple truth, in 3-4 generations, your great grandkids won't probably know your name, or what you did, or how you may have failed...

What is worth doing even if you fail?

Hey Reader, This past week, I've been thinking a lot about trust, boldness, and courage. Thomas Jefferson said, "If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done." This makes me think about how easy it is to stay in what is known, in what feels comfortable. How easy it is to keep doing what you already do, even when it’s not working or even if it doesn't lead you to what you want. The truth is that comfort rarely leads us to growth. When you think...
