You’re allowed to want more

Hey Reader,

This past weekend, I was down in the Florida Keys, surviving on almost no sleep, eating burgers at 1 a.m., and pacing my boyfriend through part of a 100-mile ultramarathon.

And if you read that first sentence, you probably first thought I was partying all weekend, LOL.

Far from it.

My boyfriend just completed his first 100-mile race: the Keys100.

And honestly? Even being part of it as a pacer was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done physically and mentally… and I wasn’t even the one running the race.

I know for sure it was the hardest thing he has done.

For almost two days straight, there was very little sleep, nonstop movement, exhaustion, heat, hallucination-level tiredness, and moments where everything in me wondered:

“Why are we even doing this?”

Especially during the overnight portion, while we were crossing the Seven Mile Bridge at around 2 am in complete darkness, which honestly felt like a never-ending road ahead of us.

And yet… he kept going. And not even once did he complain.

Because this was something he had dreamed about doing since 2019.

Which made me think about something important:

Our dreams are funny like that.

Sometimes they don’t make sense to anyone else. Sometimes they barely make sense to us.

But they keep calling us anyway.

Quietly. Repeatedly. Persistently.

Like some invisible pull trying to move us toward a different version of ourselves.

My boyfriend has run 31 marathons since 2011, but completing a 100-mile ultramarathon had been on his mind for years.

And honestly?

I don’t need to fully understand why he wanted to do it.

I just know he did.

And sometimes, that’s reason enough.

You’re allowed to do things and to go after things simply because you want to do them.

You’re allowed to:

  • Move to another city;
  • Start over;
  • Build a business;
  • Become a creator;
  • Go back to school;
  • Take the trip;
  • Learn the skill;
  • Run the marathon;
  • Change your life.

Not because it’s the logical next step. Not because everyone approves of it. And not because you can perfectly explain why it matters either.

But because something inside of you keeps asking you for it.

And maybe the real tragedy isn’t wanting something “too unrealistic.”

Maybe the real tragedy is talking yourself out of every dream before you even give yourself the chance to try it.

So this week, I want you to ask yourself:

What is something you deeply want… that you keep acting like you need permission (or a reason) for?

Maybe this is your reminder:

You don’t need a perfect reason to want a different life. You don't need a perfect reason to want to do something new, hard, or scary. You don't need a perfect reason to want anything, really.

Just wanting it is reason enough.

Give yourself the permission you think you need and start going after those things that keep calling your name.

Even when they are the most uncomfortable, painful, or scary things you can think of (kind of how this ultramarathon felt for everyone involved).

Even in the discomfort, you'll still be glad that you did.

P.S. If you’ve been struggling with overthinking, inconsistency, self-doubt, or feeling stuck between who you are and who you want to become, this episode, "You Don’t Need More Confidence. You Need Proof", is for you. Watch here.

Your brain believes repetition

Hey Reader, We all experience preconceived notions, limiting beliefs, disempowering thought patterns, and failures. The issue is when these become our roadblocks, and many times, the 'excuses' we use to not try something. Often, we treat these things as permanent in our lives. And until we realize that they're not fixed things and that we can therefore change them, nothing can change. That's why today I want to tell you about the concept of neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is the brain’s...

What makes the better story?

Hey Reader, This is going to be a short one. I recently saw a question that helps you make decisions when you feel paralyzed by them. When you're considering big (or small) decisions, a simple question you can ask yourself is: "What would make the story better?" Or even, "What story would be the one I would want to tell?" Looking at the big picture, if you considered yourself the main character in a book or a movie, what is the storyline you would want to read or watch? What is the plot that...

It's never the "right time"

Hey Reader, Quick question: have you ever waited for the perfect moment… and it never came? As you’re reading this, I’m driving up to Atlanta from Florida to go see the Let Them show by Mel Robbins tonight. It’s… not ideal timing. We’re driving 8 hours today, going to the show tonight, and driving back first thing tomorrow morning. And honestly? That’s exactly how most of the things we want in life show up. At the worst timing.When it feels like a thousand other things are happening.When life...
